Little Missouri National Grasslands
The badlands and grasslands offer breathtaking scenery with rugged adventure. Over 1 million acres of public land provide prairie flora and wildlife viewing. *Please note that some of these acres may be intermingled with private land. Ride the land, enjoy the solitude and take in the rolling prairies, majestic buttes, cliffs and winding roads bringing you to the next spectacular view. Campgrounds are available.

Little Missouri State Park
Some of the most rugged Badlands terrain in the state. Most of the park is accessible only by horseback or hiking. More than 30 miles of marked trails crisscross the 5,749 acre park with mapping information available. Corrals are provided along with guided tours and horse rentals also available.

Maah Daah Hey Trail
A 97-mile non motorized trail open for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. The trail begins at Sully Creek State Recreation Area, approximately five miles south of historic Medora, and meanders north through the South and North units of Theodore Roosevelt National Park and the Little Missouri National Grassland. Four fenced overnight campsites with hitching posts, vault toilets, and campfire rings are located along the trail. Open all year, the trail can become impassable due to snow, ice, high water, or mud.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park - North Unit Trails Map
The north unit of the TR Park features over 40 miles of interconnecting trails which present hikers with spectacular badlands scenery. Some of the more common routes are described in this map. Trails traverse a mixture of river bottom and grassy buttes with some trails requiring steep climbs or descents. Water sources are unreliable; carry all that you anticipate needing. Trails are marked with wooden posts with signs at intersections.
